The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Top-Up, awarded by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), is an intensive four-month online programme designed for persons looking to establish or further a successful executive or professional career. This course is mainly suitable for those who already hold a recognized postgraduate diploma worth 120 credits.
Delivered entirely online, the programme is led by highly qualified and experienced academic tutors who provide expert guidance throughout the dissertation process. The MBA offers a structured pathway for personal and managerial development, encouraging students to contribute original ideas and insights through academic research.
UCLan’s MBA is a well-established qualification with a strong reputation among employers across the private, public, and voluntary sectors. Graduates are well-positioned to progress into senior leadership roles or pursue further study, such as the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).
Enhance Your MBA with a Recognised Specialism
The Research Specialisation Certificate is an optional addition for students undertaking the MBA at UCLan. In addition to the MBA certificate and transcript, students who opt in will receive a third certificate detailing their dissertation topic, officially approved by the University.
This certificate enables students to choose a dissertation focus in a specific area of management—such as finance, marketing, human resources, or operations—allowing for in-depth exploration and expertise in their chosen field.
To be eligible, students must complete the required MBA modules and submit a dissertation that meets the University’s academic standards. Upon successful completion, the additional certificate is awarded alongside the MBA qualification.
This recognition adds value to the MBA by demonstrating the student’s specialist knowledge and commitment to academic research in a defined area of management.
A sample certificate is available on request.
The Study Module is the foundation of the UCLan MBA Top-Up. It provides students with the opportunity to undertake independent research on a management topic of their choice.
· Key business and management research methodologies
· How to create a research proposal and conduct a literature review
· Development of a research brief (2,000 words), a comprehensive dissertation (12,000 words), and a professional development report (1,000 words)
Dissertation topics may be selected in any preferred management specialism, such as marketing, HR, operations, or finance. This flexibility allows students to align their academic work with their professional interests and career goals.
Upon successful completion, students may be awarded the Research Specialisation Certificate, which includes the official title of their dissertation, authorised by the University.
