Course Content

Using relevant case law and legislation, you’ll evaluate how the law treats various employment relationships and the significance of contract terms.

Equality at Work

In this module, you will critically assess the effectiveness of anti-discrimination laws in the UK. Topics covered include:

  • Legal protections based on age, disability, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion or belief, and more
  • The Equality Act and its application in modern workplaces
  • Policies aimed at reconciling work and family life

You’ll develop a deeper understanding of how British law seeks to protect employees from discrimination and promote equality.

Termination of Employment and Individual Dispute Resolution

Gain an in-depth and practical understanding of how the law governs the end of employment relationships. You will examine:

  • Wrongful and unfair dismissal
  • Redundancy and economic dismissals
  • Workplace dispute resolution procedures

This module enhances your ability to critically analyse employment termination practices and the effectiveness of related policies.

International Labour Law, Human Rights, and Trade Union Law

Explore how international and supranational legal frameworks influence employment law. You’ll study:

  • Human rights and their impact on employment practices
  • The legal framework governing trade unions and collective bargaining
  • The law on industrial disputes and worker participation

This module provides a global perspective on employment rights and obligations, with particular emphasis on UK compliance within an international context.

Employment Law Dissertation

The dissertation allows you to pursue independent research on a specific topic within employment law. You’ll:

  • Access and evaluate a range of primary and secondary legal sources
  • Receive continuous academic supervision throughout

The dissertation (12,000–15,000 words) provides the opportunity to showcase your expertise and explore a subject of professional relevance.

Study Method

This LLM is delivered 100% online over a period of 21 months, starting in September. Each module runs for approximately 15 weeks, with a recommended commitment of 10–15 hours of study per week.

  • IELTS 6.5 or equivalent for non-native English speakers
